Dr Beeching considered the long line from Ruabon to Barmouth along the Dee valley to be surplus to requirements and its complete closure was scheduled for 18th January 1965. In the autumn of its days the ex-LMS Ivatt class 2 2-6-0 moguls were the reular motive power and we await the arrival of 46512 at Ruabon station before boarding its train and taking a journey along the double-tracked section of this route down to Llangollen, the part of the line passing through Trevor which many supporters of today’s Llangollen Railway hope can one day be restored to make a connection with the national rail network once again. Ruabon will never have such complex trackwork again though!
A short clip, but captures the experience. There is no sound on this film.
