JAMES & MARY PHENNAH

JAMES PHENNAH 1853 – 1899

Born 1853 in Wrexham, son of Thomas Phennah a stationer, during his life James was an over seer, auctioneer and a poor rate collector in Wrexham. He was also a member of the Wrexham Square and Compass Masonic Lodge.

In 1881 James married Mary Dall. They had children Evelyn and Reginald. James died in 1889 aged 46. He made a will, probate was granted to his wife Mary. Effects £5624 12s which was a considerable amount in those days.

MARY DALL 1856 – 1936

Mary was born about 1856 in Slamanan, Stirlingshire. Mary moved to Wales and was engaged as the Schoolmistress at the Penygell Girls School, she was also at Tabor Hill Infants School Bersham / Coedpoeth. Her sister Maggie was also a teacher in the same village.

After James`s death Mary married again to Algernon Snell, the marriage took place in Wrexham in 1904.

There was only one Algernon Snell in the country he was born 1841 in Cornwall, in 1911 Mary and Algernon are in Keynsham Somerset. Algernon died in 1921 in the same town. 

Mary died in 1936 in Cheltenham aged 81, she was brought back to Wrexham and is buried with her first husband James Phennah on the gravestone she is described as his wife.

Mary made a will, probate to Reginald James Phennah. Effects £5104 14s 9d.
