
James Holland Evans was born on 28 February 1877 in Denbigh, he was the son of Robert Evans and Elizabeth Ellis. In 1881 he was the youngest of 7 children at home in Henllan Street, Ruthin when his father was a railway good foreman. By 1891 James Holland was working as an errand boy for the post in Llanrhydd.
James Holland is missing in 1901, but his family is still in Ruthin. It`s possible that he was overseas as a notice in 1903 states he had been in the Army.
APPOINTMENT OF A POLICE OFFICER. Police constable James Holland Evans has been appointed to fill a vacancy on the Denbigh Borough Police Force. He is a native of Denbigh and now of Ruthin and has been in the army and having been through the South African campaign.

In 1905 James Holland married Elizabeth Jones in Wrexham, Elizabeth had been born in Crewe on 20 September 1875. In 1911 they were living in 58 Victoria Road, Wrexham. James was a police acting sergeant, they had two sons George Herbert 3 and Edgar Holland aged 1. Their first son James Glynne had died in November 1907 at the fever hospital, he was only 2.
The next time the couple are found is in 1939, they are in Talbot road, Wrexham. James H is a Chief Constable.
James Holland Evans died on 12 November 1949 aged 72. Elizabeth his wife died in January 1963 aged 82 and is buried with her husband.
